GAME
Twenty-two species of game occur in abundance, including the Kudu, Oryx, Zebra, Blesbok, Hartebeest, Springbok, Warthog and Eland.  Smaller game and a wealth of bird life can be observed.

HUNTING TERRAIN
Situated just 1 Hours drive by road from Hosea Kutako International Airport near the capital of Windhoek. Otjiterazu is part of the Swakoptal Conservancy in the center of Namibia.  The terrain is mainly savannah with grass and acacia trees, and is surrounded by mountains.

HUNTING SEASON
Hunting season is from February to November, with the best months being April to September. Travel in Namibia does not require vaccinations.   Precaution for malaria should be taken.


RIFLES AND AMMUNITION
- a 30 caliber or larger is recommended
- only 80 rounds of ammo per hunter are allowed to enter Namibia
- no Mussle loader (Pyrodex) or semi-automatic rifles are allowed
- use of soft nose ammunition

PROFESSIONAL HUNTER
A Master Hunting Guide, will be provided to escort the hunter with every hunt.  Hunters will have the opportunity to harvest excellent trophies and every effort will be made to accommodate each hunter's need.
  Hunting from the Vehicle is not allowed.  Fair chase conditions apply.

1. Requirements etc.

  • No visa is required for entry into Namibia. You will only need your passport.

  • No inoculations are required.

  • Precaution for malaria should be taken.  Malaria does occur in Namibia.

  • First aid equipment are available. Should you require special medication, please bring sufficient supplies with you.

  • Make sure you have ample sun lotion.


2. Rifle imports

  • You are allowed to bring as many rifles as you wish, with an allowance of a maximum of 80 rounds of ammo per rifle.

  • A rifle in the 300 Magnum range (300 WinMag, 338, etc) will be sufficient.


3. Clothing requirements

  • A pair of well broken in boots is important.
    Bring a broad rimmed hat to protect neck and ears against the sun.

  • Bring something warm for the evenings and early mornings, especially during our winter (June to August). It is cold at night, and warms up during the day.

  • Hunters hunt in long pants and long sleeved shirts.  Our bushes have thorns!   Khaki and/or faded blue, green, hunting clothing will be best.  

  • Above all, travel light! We have daily laundry service.

4. Cameras, etc

  • Our power supply is 220 volt. If you bring electronic equipment (e.g. battery charger), make sure you bring the necessary adaptors and converters.

  • The same is true for any electrical device (hair dryers, etc).

  • Bring lots of film

  • Make sure your camera bag is dust  proof.

5. Accommodation

Our accommodation is fully equipped, En suite facilities in a comfortable setting with bathtubs or showers, flush toilets and hot and cold running water. Please see our guesthouse web site www.otjiterazu.com .

6. Costs

When you calculate costs according to our pricelists, you can rest assured that there will be NO hidden costs.

7. Daily rates include:

  • A licensed Master Hunting Guide for every hunting day 

  • Hunting vehicle, equipment and support team on the hunting day

  • Transfers by road between the International Airport and the farm

  • Lodging, daily meals and soft drinks

  • Laundry service

  • Field preparation of trophies

8. Daily rates exclude

  • Any air travel

  • Accommodation and meals not provided on the farm

  • Trophy fees for animals wounded and lost

  • Visits to other lodges, other safaris or tours

  • Hire of rifle and ammunition

  • Alcoholic beverages

  • The preparation, packing, documentation and export of trophies from Namibia

9. Reservation

A non-refundable deposit of fifty percent (50%)  is required to confirm a reservation.

10. Payment

Traveler's cheques, Credit cards, US dollars and Euro are accepted.

Visitors must be in possession of a valid passport which must be good for a period of at least 6 months after the intended date of departure from Namibia. Visitors from the following countries, amongst others, do not require any visas before arrival in Namibia – United Kingdom, United States of America, Republic of Ireland, South Africa. An entry period of a maximum of 90 days is granted.

Other General Info

LANGUAGE :
English is the Official Language, but German and Afrikaans are still widely spoken.

CLIMATE :
Winter (May to September) – Temperatures range in the interior from 18°C to 25°C during the day. Below freezing and frost are common at night. Summer (October to April) – Average temperatures range from 20°C to 35°C during the day. Temperatures above 40°C are often recorded in the north and south of the country. At the coast the temperature has a pretty constant range of 15°C to 25°C, fog is common. Rainfall – the ‘small rainy season' occurs in November and December with the main rainy season form January to April. During this time flash floods are common.

CURRENCY :
Credit cards such as Visa, Master and Diners Card are widely accepted, American Express less so. The Petrol Service Stations only accept local "petro" cards and do not accept international credit cards. The Namibian Dollar is linked one to one to the South African Rand and both currencies are used. Foreign currency is not widely accepted but can be exchanged at Banks (Passport is needed). VAT paid on items being purchased for export can be reclaimed at the airport on departure.

ELECTRICAL :
Namibian electricity is 220 / 240 Volts. Outlets are old UK style 15 amp round pin plugs.

TIME :
Summer: From the first Sunday in September until the first Sunday in April GMT + 2 hours
Winter: From the first Sunday in April until the first Sunday in September GMT +1 hour

HEALTH :
Yellow Fever certificates are not needed unless you come from, or have recently visited high risk countries, especially certain other parts of equatorial Africa. Bilharzias only occurs occasionally in parts of Namibia, so is not a significant risk. HIV, as in most other places, is a reality in today's world.

MALARIA :
Much of the northern part of the country is officially "medium to high" risk for malaria between the months of November and May so malarial prophylaxis are an important consideration for visitors coming out, especially at these times.

WATER :
Tap water is safe to drink throughout Namibia (except in parts of the Caprivi) bottled water is readily available almost everywhere.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS :
To dial out from Namibia for an international call use 00 + the relevant international code and number. To dial into Namibia you need + 264. Cellular Phones are on the GSM system and work in and near all major towns, at the coast and within about a 100km radius of Windhoek.

Cotton is preferred over synthetic fibers for most clothing
A warm sweater/fleece for early winter mornings and evenings
Hat with a wide brim
Sunglasses, sun block, lip ice
Moisturizer
Swimming togs and swimming towel
Walking shoes

Mosquito repellent

Day wear is casual and muted colours for game viewing are recommended
Plastic bags – to wrap clothes and even luggage in to dust proof it
Camera with dust cover, and plenty of film ASA 100 or 200 is recommended
